Dogs and Guests

As we prepare for Thanksgiving and look towards the holiday season, you are going to have some time where you realize that you are going to need to deal with your dog and guests. They often are wigged out by new events and new people visiting. And, your own guests may have their own issues of fear and anxiety around your dog.It is important for all of your guests to feel comfortable around guests and see that they all have a great time during their holiday with you, and that your dog does too. In order to accomplish this, keep your guests aware that your dog is well behaved, and will not hurt or harm your guests in any way. If you have properly trained yourself and your dog to be a quiet and calm, you will be sure to have this situation occur everywhere you go.

If you are experiencing dog aggression, you will need to physically separate your dog and your guests, and it is best to allow a quiet part of the home to be closed off to your dog and allow your guests no access to your dog's space. This is unfortunate, but if you have not yet become a true leader in your home in your dog's eyes, you must protect your guests from your overly active dog.

In the near future, think about enrolling in an obedience class, or work on training with yourself and your dog. Your life with your dog will be greatly more rich and rewarding than you can ever imagine.
